The key scripture is taken from the word of God, the book of Mathew, Chapter 16: verse 13- 20.
In these verses we see Jesus posing a question to his disciples.
The question he
ask was, who do men say that I the Son of man am?
Most of the disciples began to answer Jesus question with what others thought about him. Some said John the Baptist, some said Elias, and yet others said Jeremiah the prophet.
The disciples of Jesus day were very much like the disciples
in the church today. They attribute to Jesus the Christ the power of the dead, the power of religiosity, which is
the power associated with human beings.
Jesus then shakes them up by asking them the most important
question of their lives:
As we read the text we can see the shock on the disciples
face.
They had been living with Jesus for 3 years now and could
not answer the question.
Suddenly peter spoke out thou art the Christ, the son of the
living God.
Jesus them stated in verse 17, flesh and blood hath not
revealed this unto you, but my father which is in heaven.
Jesus goes on to say in verse 18- that upon this rock, I
will build my church and the gates of hell shell not prevail against it. Many
have taken this verse out of context even going so far as to say that Christ
would build His church upon Peter a man.
They give the reason for this by stating that in the Greek Peter’s name is translated Petros meaning small stone, but if we stay true to the text we see that the while Petros does mean small stone, the word rock that Jesus speaks of building His church upon comes from the Greek word for Petra meaning a mass of rocks or a foundation.

Peter also stood in the way of the Lord’s sacrificial
offering in Matthew 16:21-23, denied the Lord three times in Matthew 26:69-75,
and publicly sin in direct disobedience to his vision from God in Galatians
2:11-14. This shows the imperfection of Peter who later was reported erroneously as the first pope
infallible. This lie or any that states that any pope is without fault is believed by a billion converts today.
Please turn to 1 Corinthians 10:4 it reads "for no other
foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ". This closes
any argument made by almost a billion people that Peter a man would be the
Chief Stone upon which the Church would be built.
In looking at these verses in Matthew 16:13--20 again we see Jesus is saying that flesh and blood have not and cannot reveal that he is the Messiah-son of the living God. He states that this revelation word must come from the Holy Spirit of God which dwells within us.
He also goes on to say that upon that upon that revelation
power, that revealed word from God he would build his church:
Hence the title of the lesson: The revealed word of God.
The object of this lesson is to impact you with the
knowledge that God is trying to speak to you personally; he desires to tell you
the direction you should go in your life
.
We should have an expectation when we are reading the word
of God. You should be listening to the voice within the text or the voice
within the voice of the shepherd.
John 10:27—Reads my sheep hear my voice, and I know them and
they follow me.
We know that Jesus has not yet returned in the flesh, so how
are we to hear His voice? It is through the revealed word from the Holy Spirit.
The only remaining question should be. How do I acquire this
ability so that I can hear and do what God requires of me?
I will get to that in a moment but I wish to illustrate the
importance of hearing the revealed word of God.
Question: How many believe that the bible has all the
answers to your life today?
1. Then show me in the bible the name of the person you’re
going to marry.
1a. the divorce rate is 75% for first time marriages…in the
church.
2. Show me the name of the next job you’re going to work at.
2a. Man says we’re in a global economic depression….in the
church?
These specifics are not in the bible and if we are to be led
by God and fulfill His desires then we will need to hear His voice in EVERY
area of our lives.
Question: how many believe that God wants to you reveal who
you are to marry or where you are to work?
You might want to listen to the revealed word of God and
find out where God wants you to be and who with. You see the bible is
FOUNDATIONAL while the Holy Spirit isREVELATIONAl.
Today I wish to give you 3 goals, 3 objectives, or 3
principles if you will. They are designed to help you understand and hear the
revealed word of God in all you do.
Principle 1
The Holy Spirit reveals Gods words when we are hungry for
God.
If you know anything about Peter he was hungry for the
Christ.
1. It was Peter who walked on water.
2. It was Peter that asked all the questions.
3. It was Peter and 2 other disciples who were with Jesus at
the Mt.of Transfiguration.
Peter’s hunger equipped him to receive the revealed word of
God.
To be hungry for Jesus is to seek Him with all the
desperation of a drowning man. Peter didn't seek Christ once or twice a week, He lived with
the Christ every day.
You've got to read the word of God everyday. You've got to
ask questions. There is no greater blessing for a teacher when students ask
good questions. You've got to pray to God asking Him to reveal what you should
be doing, where you should be doing it, and with whom you should be doing it
with.
1 John 2:27 (NIV) Reads "as for you the anointing you received
from Him (God) remains in you and you do not need anyone to teach you about all
things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit- just as it has taught
you remain in Him".
Listen the Holy Spirit is God working in and through your
life to fulfill God’s purpose in your life.
This anointing was teaching Peter and can teach you today.
Peter had heard what everyone else had to say, but when Jesus asked him the
most important question of his life, he needed to hear from God.
Right now you may need to hear from God. He speaks through
His revealed word.
Principle 2
The revealed word can be heard when you are listening to the
pastors preaching or teaching. You can also hear God when you are reading the
word of God by yourself.
2 Timothy 3:16 & 17 (NIV) Reads... all scriptures is God
breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correction, and training in
righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good
work.
This verse clearly shows us that the revealed word of God can reach us, rebuke us when we are out of order, and correct us when we are making mistakes. The power, purpose, and plan God has for our lives can be found when we are hearing his voice. Understand when you hear the word of God being spoken, listen to the words, but hear the voice within the pastor’s voice.

"The word of God is not locked into the ancient of days, nor
is it condition by man. His word is both timely and timeless".
If we turn to the book of Roman 10:17 it reads this way, "so
then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God".
If we take that same verse and used the new international
version we can see clearly the title text coming to life. Roman 10:17 (NIV)
Reads… "consequently faith comes from hearing the message and the message is
heard through the word (or voice) of Christ".
We see now that we must be in a position to not only hear
the message but we must hear the revealed word of God within that message.
God is already revealing His word to us. We've got to equip
ourselves to be able to hear Him. These four tools should help you to develop
the ability to hear God in His Word.
1.) Read the word of God daily.
2.) Pray to God to reveal what you must do in your life.
3.) Begin to expect to hear the voice of God within the message. 4.) Listen to the voice within the voice of the messenger, your Pastor or Minister .

Principle 3
Seek the revealed word of God.
Often times when I am speaking or teaching I hear the voice
of God revealing certain things to me about my life. I tell those listening,
don’t look at the messenger but hear the message within the message. So often I
see someone so busy taking notes that they record everything that is being said
but miss what’s really being said. These types of people have a mental
understanding of scripture and there interpretation and usually have an
abundance of memorized scripture to go alone with it.
When you see this know that it is just head knowledge,
intellect, or brain power. When all or most of what you know about God is
founded on brain power then you can easily be led astray because God is Spirit
and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Question: how many people who have been through a divorce or
breakup thought when they were at the altar that this person was sent to you by
God?
How many of you now after the divorce or breakup say to
yourselves, what was I thinking?
When we rely on human power to guide our lives the result
can often be catastrophic.
You see Jesus compares the revealed word of God to a rock. A
rock speaks of a foundation, that which has stability and strength.
We all know about the parable of the two houses in Matthew
chapter 7:24 -27. They are described as the wise and the foolish builders. When adversity such as persecution, tribulation, and affliction
stormed against both houses, the one built on sand (human power) was destroyed
while the one built on a rock (Jesus Christ) stood firm.
John 6:54---69 (KJV)
Here we see Jesus speaking to His disciples. He is saying in
verse 55 for my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. It
continues by saying in verse 56 he that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood,
dwelleth in me and I in him.
In verse 64 we easily see that Jesus knew their hearts. He
knew that they were not founded on the revealed word of God. If you continue
reading this chapter you will see that many of his disciples began to murmur
amongst themselves because Jesus words offended them. In verse 66 we read from
that time many of His disciples went BACK, and walk no more with Him.
Jesus then asks the remaining 12 disciples, will ye also go
away?
Guess who speaks up? No other than Simon Peter saying; Lord
to whom shall we go? Thou hast the WORDS of eternal life. And we believe that
thou art that Christ, the son of the living God.
You see when you receive the reveal word of God.
Trials and tribulations can’t shake you.
When the word offends you as it will, you will not turn
back. Marriages stand because it was revealed to both couples that their
marriage was from God. Children are called back to God with patience and love
because they were born out of the revealed word of God.
In closing we know that God’s Holy Spirit lives within us
and He desires to have a relationship with us. God wants to direct our paths so
we can be fruitful and further His kingdom and the name of Jesus Christ. Within
His word His voice can be heard and we have been given the opportunity to hear
and move according to His plan for our lives.
If I hadn't had things like this happen to me many times I would find it hard to believe, but it still never ceases to amaze me. This morning I was thinking about what I was going to put in a post I am putting together and one of the things that passed through my mind as I was thinking how the church is entangled in so much false doctrine. I was also thinking how people believe that Peter was the 'rock' that Jesus was going to build His church on when it was Jesus Himself who the Lord was speaking about when He said 'On THIS ROCK' as in 'Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal' (Isaiah ch.26 v.4). Then I come into my workroom and put my computer on, go to put the letter L for 'lighthouse vision blogspot' in to bring up the blog and realize that I have pressed the letter J. I correct this and go to press the return key, then think 'wait a minute, there may be a reason for me doing this, press the J key and enter, and your blog comes up, with you speaking what I also believe and know from confirmation of scripture. How important to listen to 'that still small voice eh?' God bless you for preaching the truth.
